More Twins!

Congratulations to Rachel & Harold!
My sister's twins were born on May 28th, my Dad's birthday. They were about 10 weeks early, but thankfully they are healthy. They each weigh about 3 pounds, and both come in right around 15 inches long. We are very excited about our new cousins, Garin Harold and Ariana Julise! I promise to get better pics soon!

5 Months Old Already!

I love this picture even though it's blurry...


Here's the kids at Easter. If you've ever so much as known anyone from Texas, you've probably heard about the obligatory spring bluebonnet pictures. Basically everyone's mother (including pet owners like myself) plop their little ones in the middle of a non-trampled patch of bluebonnets on the side of the road for a photography session. Hopefully no one gets stung by bees or bitten by fire ants. (Fire ants are a particularly bitter subject for me.) We usually cannot get by without someone getting grouchy due to the hot weather and dress clothes, but that weekend was somewhat mild and the day of the photos even pleasant. Plus they were babies and they can't complain yet!

Wow, time flies. Kate just learned how to roll over this week. Now all she wants to do is sleep on her tummy. Charlie has been doing so for about 2 weeks now. They're getting so big! Charlie is slower at gaining weight, but he is up to 11 lbs. 5 oz. Kate is our little dough girl at 11 lbs. 14.5 oz. Her little legs are still so cute! We just love our kiddos, but we're not without frustrating moments. The babies seem to be teething already. Combined with rolling over at night, Charlie especially likes to wake every 2-3 hours -again. We thought we were through with that. Oh well. Kate has all of a sudden decided to catch up to her brother in the physical department. She learned to lock her knees to stand, and we discovered that she LOVES to play giddyup. She giggles, squeals, and flaunts those adorable dimples! Charlie is catching up in the social department. He finally started really cooing and smiling all the time. He also gets jealous when we're only holding Kate, although his temper is nothing compared to hers. He can only roll to the left, and it's funny to watch him continue to roll way off his blanket in a heartbeat. He sits up on his elbows and scans the room. He's looking like a real little boy!

This is way overdue, and I'm getting harassed, so here goes... I thought I'd add a whole slew of pictures, since I haven't blogged much.

We're 3 Months Old!

Whew!!!
Finally, I have a few moments to get pics on the blog. People have been begging for them, so here they are. Brent and I took some fun pics early on, but I also love some of the more candid ones. They babies are great. They're finally starting to sleep for long spells, which has been great for my sleep deprivation. (Although, honestly, the more sleep I get, the more I feel I need. I never "accidentally" turned off the monitor in my sleep before 3 months came around. No, seriously, I didn't mean to. My brain is a little fried, so pardon the rambling.)

They certainly have their own unique little personalities. Kate is our little crazy-eyed squealer whose wide-mouthed smile melts our hearts even in our most frustrated moments. Her nest of dark hair is thinning out and becoming lighter, and her large blue eyes are turning green. She's pudging out everyday. I love her sweet little leg rolls. She has a petite little nose and red lines where her eyebrows should be (especially when she's mad). Charlie is a serious and VERY curious little boy whose physical strength is surprising considering the lanky little package he comes in. He's constantly holding his head up and using those beautiful blue eyes to investigate- which is also something he reportedly did when he surfaced via c-section... Brent found that particularly humorous. His blonde non-existent hair is getting darker, and he's developed a really cute little bald spot on the back of his head- probably from all the constant wiggling. The boy never stops. Even the "so-called" Miracle Blanket cannot hold him back. He works his way out of his swaddle every night, until the only thing not swaddled is his torso and maybe one arm.

Can you tell I think they're cute? The only not-so-cute thing is the crying duty. I have a theory that the kids have a plan for our undoing. When one cries and susbequently becomes tired, the other lovingly takes over crying duty immediately upon the first kid's pacifying. Just when you think you have peace, the other one lets you know otherwise! It made for not so fun nights the first few months. I also like to call Charlie's very rythmic cry the "beat" of the song, and Kate's sporadic shrieks are the "melody".

I've been told this many times, and it really was true for us: the 3 month age really flipped a switch. Suddenly we can lay them down without too much fuss (most of the time). Suddenly they sleep for 5 or 6 hours at a time. (I cut them off there, since I learned very quickly that long sleep at night means no time to myself during the day.) Overall, we're doing much better, and enjoying ourselves more. Just the fact that the babies are more responsive has made us so much more patient and excited to play with them. They're no longer just cute little blobs. They're cute little blobs that smile back at us!

Oh yeah, I haven't sent out announcements yet, so don't feel left out. It will happen one of these days!
